Central to any attraction and retention initiative is the development of a story that strongly articulates the identity of a place and what makes it unique.
To encourage this, Venture Southland is facilitating the development of the Southland Story project which was identified as an immediate priority in the Southland Regional Development Strategy Action Plan.
The project will identify what it means to be a Southlander, the values in the region, and contribute to attracting more people to the region.
An advisory group has been established to work alongside consultants from Principals Group to ensure the story development process is representative of Southland, with significant consultation on the story content, carried out to date.
What the story will be used for
The Southland Story will provide an umbrella messaging framework and a set of tools local businesses, councils and organisations can apply to their own marketing and communications
This will help promote the best aspects of the region and drive consistency in the messaging used to promote Southland as a great place to live, work, visit and do business.
It is anticipated that the project will be completed by early 2019 and will be used across Southland's retention, investment, recruitment, destination promotion and management programmes.
